Hey everyone! This weekend I had a super fun out of town shoot with Ryan and Hannah. We shot at a park in Tulsa that was AMAZING! It was a beautiful day and there were so many other photographers out and about with clients trying to shots. Costa Rica!

Well, I have been here for 3 days now. I love Costa Rica, but would love it even more if it didn't rain all the time. So far, we have done a lot of Americanized stuff. Went to the mall, went to a theater called V.I.P. where they serve you food during the movie while you are relaxing in a nice recliner, ate at a few of the local hot spots (the food is pretty awesome), and today we went to a small village where we got to hang out with some little Costa Rican kiddos, play games, and have a little bible study. So far it has been a lot of fun. Tomorrow the girls will be out of class and we will be traveling to some to see some a volcanoes, waterfalls, and I will experience my first Hostel. Wish me luck :) Hopefully Ill have some crazy experience to blog about after we get back. Here are a few pictures from todays trip to the village.

Well, it been a couple weeks since my last post. A lot has happened too. Photography is going great, but my workflow was reaaaaally slowed down when my computer crashed. Luckily I have back ups of everything, so I was ok. However, I spent hours on the phone trying to get my computer sent in for repair for a motherboard issue. Finally, I got my computer back, have gotten all my programs back on it, and started back to work. My apologies to all my clients who were expecting pictures over the last couple of weeks. After all this however, I have decided to make a few upgrades which consist of an awesome graphics card and dual 22" monitor displays. I hope that this will allow me to get much better with workflow.

After all that techy stuff, here is a recent shot of a shoot I did with Brooke. She is an aspiring actress and will be going to Hollywood soon for acting school. Wish her luck!

Hope and Giving

First off, I just would like to say if anyone reading this has never heard the Robbie Seay Band, you've got to check them out. They are an incredible group of Christian musicians who do a amazing job of bringing you into worship with their music. Tonight I had the opportunity to hear them for the 3rd time. A lot of times I go through worship singing along and don't pay attention to the words that I am singing. During this time of worship, I recognized that and immediately wanted to read the lyrics word by word and discovering the true meaning of the song. One of my favorite songs by Robbie Seay is Song of Hope.

I find myself too many times losing hope. Hope in people, hope in myself, hope in God. So many times I have been faced with trials and things have worked out, but I always seem to fall back into that same web of doubt, confusion, faithlessness, etc. Ultimately I have a God who is looking out for me all the time. A God that shows mercy and grace when I screw up time and time again. It is an amazing feeling to know that when all hope is lost, we have a God who will be there for us in "our darkest night." This is just one of the things that really hit me tonight.

One other thing that stirred a lot of emotion in me was a presentation by Chris Seay, a pastor at Ecclesia Church in Houston, TX. I have always thought of myself as a pretty giving person, but when I start to evaluate myself, I realize that I give very little. It is sooo easy to give when you have in excess. I truly desire to be someone who is willing to give when I have nothing, but find a way to do it anyways. This is true selflessness. Chris was speaking to us about the selfishness in the world. Everything is about me me me. I have been to several different countries and have witnessed first hand the needs of others. Each time I come home with an agenda to change the way I spend, to not take for granted all of my blessings, etc. I constantly forget about these things a few months after I get back and it is something that I really need to work on. One of the challenges Chris gave us was to sponsor a kid through Compassion International. For only $32 a month, you can provide food, health care, education, and most importantly help to educate that child about Jesus Christ. Everyone that I have talked to has had nothing but good things to say about the organization. One way to hold myself accountable with this sponsorship is that myself and my roommates are all going to pitch in and help to sponsor one of the children. If you can't do it yourself, get someone else to go in with you. The impact this could have on a child's life would be incredible. For more information please check out their website.

Audrey's 1st Birthday!

Well, a few years ago I was inspired to start doing wedding photography thanks to my friends Shane and Alicia. While shooting a video at their wedding, I decided to take some snapshots with my digital camera. It was with these couple of pictures that I decided to start learning about photography and later on pursuing it. Here we are a few years later and that same great couple just celebrated their daughter Audrey's 1st birthday party. It was such a priveledge to have been asked by them to photography Audrey's special day. She was full of joy and excitement and so much fun to take pictures of. Here is a slideshow of some of the pictures taken of Audrey on her big day. This is one of my first attempts of hopefully many baby sessions.

Free to Succeed Tour w David Jay and Jasmine Star

Hey everyone! I was so fortunate to have met David Jay and Jasmine Star on Thursday. They are two amazing photographers from California who have been extremely successful with their photography. The main focus of the workshop was to give the photographers more freedom to do what we love (shooting weddings, etc., but to ultimately make the experience for the bride and groom better also. I learned sooo much from the both of them and can't wait to start implementing their ideas into my business. On top of providing us with amazing information on how to better or businesses, they were also two the nicest people I have ever met in my life. They were willing to share all of their knowledge with us. I love seeing how many people in the photography industry are so giving.

Here is a shot of me and David Jay at the workshop. Prior to the start of the event somehow I managed to get into the room before all of the 125 other photographers came in. As I was sitting there in the second row, staking claim on my good seat, David Jay of all people came and sat down beside me. It was awesome getting to chat with him before all of the madness started.

Today I had the opportunity to catch up with my old friend Justin "J" Butler and his amazing wife of almost two years Amber. I started working with J about 7 years ago at Staples and haven't seen him in several years. Today I had the chance to shoot their portrait session and it was a blast. After shooting J and Amber's portrait session, I met up with Kyle Qualls and Mary Beth Richardson for their engagement shoot. We had an amazing time and they loved working the camera. Ive known Mary Beth since she was a Freshman in college and I have know Kyle for several years. It was an honor to be able to capture the moments of two great friends special day. California Update

The trip is going awesome!!!!!!! Unfortunately I haven't had much time to post. Yesterday we went to Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach, and Manhattan Beach. They were all incredible. Today we spent some time downtown LA and spent some time in Hollywood. There is so much still yet to be seen there. We will be going back to Hollywood tomorrow or Monday. Here are just a couple more pictures for now...... Adios....

Trip to California

So as we are planning our drive to OKC to fly out for LA, Garrett realizes that he has booked his ticket for the wrong day. :( This was just a small set back on our plans, but I did make it after all.

As I was waiting at the airport for my buddy Cody to pick me up, I decided I would get a taxi to take me to the oh so famous In -N - Out. The burgers there are fantastic. If your ever in Cali, you should definitely try out one of their burgers. After Cody picked me up, we headed to La Mirada where he lives and then took a trip to Whittier where a friend from home Paul Rowe once lived. There we met a homeless guy name John that we had about an hour and a half convo with. He was a really interesting guy. He was also willing to let me take a pic of him. After that we headed back for a firework display in La Mirada which was pretty cool. Stay tuned for more of the exciting stuff starting tomorrow when Garrett arrives. Here are a few more pics from the trip so far. Taken with the new 5D of course.

Belize Mission Trip 2008

Hey everyone! Over Spring Break I had the priveledge of going to Belize for the 3rd time. Once again it was amazing. I was able to witness some children come to know the Lord and build relationships with so many people. Although I tend to forget how fortunate I am, every year I go I am reminded. The work was hard, the days were long, but in the end I know God had us there for a reason and I feel that we made a differance. If you ever get a chance to go on a mission trip, DO IT!! They are such a blessing. If your a photographer, it makes it even that much better. Here is a small slideshow that I made from the trip. Ill have more soon, but there are about 1200 to go through. This setup with a backup camera such as a 20D or Rebel XTI is definitely enough to get you started. A good starter lens would also be the Canon 50mm 1.8. It focuses slower, but it is really sharp and around $90.

My wish list:
Canon 70-200 f/2.8 w/ image stabilizer. It is such a great lens for portraits and those hard to shoot low light ceremony images.

Canon 50mm 1.2 and Canon 85mm 1.2 - Very pricey, but prime (fixed) lenses are something I hope to shoot with exclusively in the future. The sharpness is amazing. The depth of field is really sweeet too.

Canon16-35 f/2.8 Wide Angle - Great lens for those wide angle needs.

Canon 100mm f/2.8 Macro Lens - Awesome for detail shots and excellent clarity when used for portraits.

Canon Mark III Camera - Too many reasons to list. It is a sweet camera, but it will be awhile before I drop the $$$ on that guy.

I hope this helps somebody out. I had no idea what to get when I first started out.

Hey everyone!! It has been awhile since my last blog. Alot has happened since then. I shot a wedding May 18th that went amazing and this weekend I shot a wedding in Noble, Oklahoma which was a ton of fun also. Ill have pics posted soon.

I am also opening a studio. I should have everything going in another month or so. Licensing, backdrops, decorating, etc. has been taking alittle while. More info to come ASAP.

Mission Trip to Belize

Hello again! Well I just got back a couple days ago from Belize, Central America. It was an amazing experience. We spend most of our time a vocational school for boys who are not able to attend high school in Belize because of low test scores. During the course of the week our team led devotionals, worship, evangelized to the boys, went into villages to set up vacation bible school, build a concrete slab for their mechanics department, etc. This was escpecially difficult with hot weather and a UV index of 10+ extreme, but it was so rewarding. By the end of the week we were able to bring the word to many and 13 prayed to receive Christ. There were also many who rededicated their lives and gave up many worldly things. During our stay we were also able to visit Cahel Pech, an ancient Mayan Ruin, and spend a day on the Isalnd of San Pedro. Being in Belize opened my eyes to so many things that I hope to change in my life. I feel even more prepared now for my next mission trip to Nicarauga in July. Here are a few pictures from the trip. Well, I finally did it. I sold all my Nikon gear and just got through ordering a Canon 30D and hopefully next year the 5D or whatever else may come out. I plan on ordering some glass soon, but my weddings don't start until May, so I have plenty of time to look for them and a backup camera. Ill post some images after it comes in next week. Hey everyone! Sorry it's taken so long to get my webpage back up. The new address is www.jbarronphotography.com.

I am also in the middle of creating a flash site which I hope to have up in the next month. I have only shot one wedding so far this year, but I have 6 already booked. Among all the changes, I have also decided to switch from Nikon to Canon. In the next month or so I plan on getting a Canon 30D with some great lenses. The Nikon/Canon debate is something we all seem to deal with and I think Ive made my final decision on what to do. Theres no telling though.

I will be going on a mission trip to Belize in March which I am extremely excited about. We are taking a lot of our college students and several others on the trip . I have been once and it was amazing. We will be setting up bible schools for children, evangelizing in the villages, and building homes. After completing this we are going to get to spend a day on the island of San Pedro which will be fine with me. I ask that you all keep us in your prayers and the people of Belize.

Among the many weddings this Summer I am also fortunate to be going on a mission trip to Nicarauga. I am going with the Baptist Dental and Medical Mission. My mother has been on this particular mission trip 7 times. She always comes back with amazing stories about the 9 days they spend down there and this year I hope to witness so many more. I have only been doing photography for a year so other than weddings I havent had much experience with photojournalism, so I know Ill be in for a treat on this trip.

Jason and Kates' Wedding!

Jason and Kate......

Well I just finished my last Summer wedding and it was awesome. Everything went smooth with the exception of some rain prior to the Ceremony and a terrible overcast. This was my 6th wedding and had never dealt with rain or overcast yet. I had several places picked out for some formals and they were all outside. I had to make some quick decisions for inside formals in a barn that had been converted into several rooms with a bar and kitchen. The place was great, but I wasn't sure where to shoot the formals. However, I managed to get some great shots. I also experimented with a lot of natural light shots with my Nikon 50mm 1.8, it was a lot of fun capturing those natural looking shots while Kate was getting ready as well as some more detail shots. Kate was beautiful, so it was quite easy to take great pictures of her. Jason was looking really sharp in his suit. He looked like a mafia guy straight out of the movies. His family had some Irish heritage, so they brought in a 4 person band to play some great Irish music. All in all it was one of the funnest weddings I have shot so far. Jason and Kate were incredible! I know that I still have a lot to learn, but I have definately made a lot of improvements. I have a couple weddings booked for next Summer already and several senior sessions for the winter months ahead. Im really looking forward to investing in a new D200 body and some new glass for next Summer. I can't wait! Here are a few of the shots....

Bolitho-Elliott Wedding

My next wedding is coming up September 2nd. It will be my 6th wedding since December 05' and I am really excited about it. I have learned a lot and have purchased more equipment, so I am anxious to see how much I have improved since my last wedding in July. I will post pics as soon as the wedding rolls around.
